Below is a link to the BBC with a breaking story over here that an officer may face charges in the death of a soldier in Iraq.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4255846.stm

I read this (I have a son and baby brother same age as my son both serving in Royal Engineers they have both done tours in Iraq)with a lot of disquiet.

To me the person guilty of this soldiers death is the bomber. Why blame the officer for this? Our troops are in a war zone therefore shouldn't all equipment be the best available. If it isn't would you not agree that is the responsibility of those sending the troops to war not the officer on the ground who is responsible.

I have my own opinion of whether we should be in Iraq or not, however as a mother of a soldier I am here to support my son who does the job he is sent to do. To me this is the easy option to blame the officer on the ground for equipment shortcomings.

I cannot however see what will be acheived if this officer is charged.
I would really welcome your views at on this

Maureen
