An Engineers wife mother and sister of course I know Kipling!!!!
Learn't this poem when I went to Germany for the first time, our Sgt Maj affectionately known as Mad Dog made sure we knew it.
look under poems and click on Sappers
http://www.kipling.org.uk/kip_fra.htm

Kiplings son was killed at the Battle of Loos in 1915.He is one of the few poets I actually like along with Wilfred Owen and Sigfried Sasson.

Tommy is as relevent today as it was when it was written so is Sapper for that matter.
Thank you for reminding me of it.

Maureen
