Economically, China is shifting slowly from communism to capitalism and it will be interesting to see how this affects the populace in their acceptance of their government and expectations of rights.
I would think the global economy would also be a huge deterrent to the ruination of the United States. I am more worried about psychotic rulers like Kim Jung-il then countries that have the best interest of their state in mind.
