Laura was pretty close---what I was getting at was that we lose the ability to use our military force and can't really use it to control their economic policy anyway---So we have stuck ourselves with a very expensive military that relies on China's economy and specifically finished goods. China has a fairly cheap military which they don't plan on using, but aren't going to fall into the Cold War model because of their manufacturing strength--the global economy is a deterrent to large scale military action---so China is able to take multiple limitted aggressive actions--if they even want to--without fear of military reprisal--but--and this is the key--they have insulated their regime from our only proven way of dislodegment--we can't use our military without crippling our economy--it is a profitable (for them) stalemate
