my point was, to elaborate on wether terrorists should have rights, that rights are easy to take away. that's it's easy to make an argument that certain people, terrorists, minorities, certain religions, don't deserve rights. I was trying to point out that making the argument that terrorists dont deserve rights, which was more gail's argument, (And i use that in the meaning of debate) was made not very long ago to deny blacks their rights, and not very long before that to deny japanese and italian americans their rights.

And i maintain that detainees are not better off than anyone else. I dont think not having access to legal help, not ever being charged, and being force fed is better off. I dont think that being labeled a "enemy combatant, just so people dont have to stick to the rules, is such a wonderful thing. do you really think that anyone is treating the people in guatanomo bay in any way that coincides with human rights, rights that the United States likes to trot out when it suits their purpose? is there any doubt in your mind that these people will ever be charged with anything or be released. Like tom said, check out the Geneva convention on the treatment of POW's. There's a reason why teh bush administration has maneuvred it so that they can argue that the geneva convention doesnt apply to these people. and we're not talking people that fly airplanes into buildings.

And yes, I'm Canadian and therefor a hedonist and a liberal and i'm proud of it. lol
