Tom - According to articles I've been reading

Hamas is actually the "social" concience group internally. The ones that want to put in health care, social services etc. The articles in CBC online feel that the people voted for social reform more than "terrorism". Hamas is trying to get the President to stay on - from the other party - and negotiate with Isreal. While Hamas works on internal social changes. The articles also suggest that they will "tone down" now that they are in parliment so to keep the popular support.

It was a fair election. Monitored by the international community and the people responded. They aren't pls'd with the "status-quo". It's up to the new gov't and the international gov'ts to respond appropriately to that vote and try to help those people after years of ignoring them. Instead the international gov'ts are making threats instead of offering a helping hand with social reform. As I see it that's making a potentially bad situation worse instead of working to fix the situation before you back them into a corner.

How does the saying go "you catch a lot more flies with honey, than vinegar".
