Alrighty Mr. Let's-look-at-things-in-absolutes,

Assuming you're in the power position (although I don't think that's necessary for this discussion):
Does this mean that every time your child asks for help, you do? What about the homeless guy on the street? What about your neighbor in need? The folks effected by Katrina?

And we're talking selfless help, not self-serving help.

I can't imagine that responding to every distress call would always be the smartest move.

BTW Bren, I pulled that analogy directly out of We Were Soldiers Once... and Young, one of the books that Tom had recommended on leadership. I was so struck by that anecdote! Strategically speaking, is it ever the right move?
