Andrea, the examples of democracy being forced on a nation. Are examples of two countries that went to war with a group of other countries against another group of countries and lost. The losers of WWII Japan and Germany were defeated in a declared war. They were not subjected to paying war reparations after the war because we learned from history of WWI that forcing a nation to cripple it's own economy by paying crippling war reparations to the victors is what collapsed German economy and allowed Hitler to come to power.<P> In today's world I don't think it is possible to 'force' democracy on anyone. The choice of how a country is ruled, is made for better or worse by the people living in that country. We can bring down a head of state & their government true, but unless America wants to start reestablishment of colonialism throughout the world democratic rule as Americans know it most likely has to be brought about by the people living in those countries. Countries like India the people, have chosen a Democratic form of rule.
