Tom...Questions about retired SEALs

Posted by Kathy S. on 10/5/2005, 9:19:10
Tom-
You've had 20 years in the service, many many hours training and then when you reach 20 it's up or out. It seems like such a waste of a valuable asset. As a business person, the idea of spending 20 years training someone to improve their skill and then saying, you aren't going to make partner, so retire it just ludicrous. Since recruiting numbers are so far down, is there any chance the military will change this policy?

Also, with the skills you've acquired, what do other retired SEALs do in the private sector? Aside from security jobs like Blackwater or leadership consulting?

One final question, you mentioned going for a disability hearing. What will that determine? Is there a higher retirement percent of base pay if you are qualified as disabled, or is it so you will get physical therapy? If this is too personal, feel free to skip this question.

Thanks,
Curious Kat
