I am not against testing

Posted by TOm on 9/27/2005, 9:02:58, in reply to "So how would you..."
i am against standardized testing as THE measurement of efficiency of an educational system because it is too easy to work around (For the local administrators) and it does not measure the ability to think, use knowledge, or develope wisdom.
I just know that people learn at differnet rates and in different manners, and by orientating your educational system around a bell curve and then seeking cost effectiveness through optimization you are not providing the best oppurtunity for the majority. (You are for the 5-10% of kids around the mean, which effectively means you aren't servicing the lower 40 percentile and you are inadvertantly drawing the upper 40% to the mean)
