Your school sounds great. I think that tailoring the education to a childs particular strengths and weaknesses is the key rather than a system that leaves a large percentage behind and keeps a large percentage back to serve the mean. How can a child learn to be a productive citizen when they are essentially taught that they are not smart enough or to be disengaged because no one is challenging them. I home school my children because I don't have the option for a school like yours. Our current educational model is modeled after the militaristic prussian educational system whose purpose was to teach the majority to be good factroy workers (go where your told, do what your told, you have no choice about this and don't be late!) and a certain select minority to be their bosses. Who wants that for their kids? Just as important as basic skills is learning to be a creative, critical thinker who is confident and happy. I thinks its time to develop a completely different educational model. standardized testing may have a place but its a small one.
