Zionism and ME history

Posted by Tracy on 9/14/2005, 18:26:36, in reply to "Tom-Question re: Israel"
I've done a little research lately and there is significantly more to that story...at least 3000 years more. But as to the 1948 reference, from what I understand, what the Arab League opposed was federalization and a UN sanctioned infiltration of some 250,000 Israeli refugees to create this nation. Until this time, jewish settlers has lived in the region but were an extreme minority. The United States had been opposed to this under Roosevelt, then when he died and Truman took over, and then revealing atrocities in the concentration camps were exposed, the American public began to support Zionism (return of the Jew to their homeland and thus the Israeli nation was approved. From what I understand, this region was under British control? So, if the land was bought and paid for, to whom did the money go? Anyway, everything I've ever read regarding terrorism and the US (namely Bin Laden) was that all acts of terrorism were in retaliation for the US policies regarding Israel and the Palestinian nation post WW2. Don't know enough about the politics/religous history involved to debate who has the right to this land. But I do think US involvement in the creation of Israel and it's unilateral support since has brought our country to the place we are today. Unfortunately, because of our misinformed govt. (don't believe that for a minute) and it's actions, we now face an evolved hatred. Terrorists around the globe have found a common new enemy and a new reason for living (and dying). Israel seems to be making progress finally and maybe this will be the start of a new era for that region. But America's fight with terrorism, I think has just begun. I apologize if I've got my facts wrong. Internet research (all research) is subjective to the human who records it.
