Sure, go ahead and be logical, would this be a bad time to admit I read "Combating Terrorism" yesterday? I think I got what you wrote, and I thought it was spot on (that's a good phrase). I was wondering what the Navy thought of it?

On a personal basis, I won't change what I do. I'll fly in airplanes, ride the subway, whatever. My logical mind knows that the statistics of me dying in a car accident are astronomically higher. However, that doesn't mean when I fly, or ride a subway, the emotional part of my brain isn't checking everybody out and wondering.......? So does my wondering mean they accomplished their mission?

About my reply "not a very reassuring premise." I took the YOU literally, as if someone was trying to kill me and only me. So when you wrote "you cannot be made safer than you are right now " that is what I found not very reassuring. Now sure why I went down that road.
