Sniper Alyssa in Over the Edge

Posted by Janet W. on 9/2/2005, 16:41:45, in reply to "I am going in again..someone crab my feet:) About the physical stuff..."
When we first meet Alyssa, she is angry that she can't apply to become a SEAL. After Frank's death, Tom asks her to step in when they take down the highjacked plane as a sharpshooter. Sam welcomes her to the team with a handshake.

That model - of cooperation and shared expertise between different branches of the military - seems ideal (jmo, of course).

Of course, Tom has a point too - about embracing inevitable change in advance so that you have input and control vis a vis the outcome. Not a great example, but my husband was very unhappy when his male boarding school went coed. Twenty years later his daughter applied there - it has been a good thing for the school ... and they worked to make it that way (with planning, involving students, parents, alumni). So I guess I can see both sides.

What would Alyssa have preferred? Janet
p.s. I'm on vacation for a week - may I add my voice to those who want archives. I've never seen a board scroll so fast in my life!
