Ordnance

manufacturers use different color wires for quality control and to be able to give directions for how to "render safe" the piece of ordnance--somthing EOD guys appreciate. Improvised exlposive devices have no conventions and are made with what is on hand. Booby trapping them specifically to get the EOD person is pretty easy, so you don't have a lot of hand entries--BIPing or mechanically disrupting them is a much better method. So, the real reason that there is always a red wire and a green wire is because Hollywood, shockingly, doesn't have it correct.
