My second guess is that they buy the wires at local home centers and they come in different colors depending on what they are used for (just a guess) and the bomb builder doesn't want to make his own wire.
My third guess is that it keeps you guessing---did he use standard wiring ---red is hot, the blue is cold or did he switch them? Ennie meenie minnie moe cut the wrong wire and watch it blow. LOL
