maybe it's b/c I am tracking Tracey's post above and trying to reconcile them -

so the "desired affect on the enemy" aside for a moment-

above you stated:
before we order people to their deaths, we must be sure that the cause is worth all our deaths,...

and in parameters thread say that:
when you expand that process to the nation--the numbers become huge--and as a result, you never try to protect 100, 1000 or 10,000 people.

so then which one is it? and why?
