Don't think so

He took a stand when he wrote the op-Ed piece. Also, I believe plenty of Senators and Congressmen have and do upset the applecart behind the scenes by taking a stand. What about when the Democrat Senators meant and managed to get the Senate to meet in closed door session a few weeks ago? Many Senators were livid over that, want to bet those Senators that were instrumental in that process will be able to approach others when they need a critical vote on a piece of legislation?

I don't think it's automatically those who follow the partyline that are looked at for the VP slot. Many are chosen because of their power and influence, look at JFK and LBJ two opposite men in leadership style but JFK needed LBJ's legislative and political savvy to get his legislation through. I would really liked to have seen Hubert Humphery defeat Nixon for reasons too long to list! VP Humphery when he was in the Senate was a very effective leader. What to me is very ironic, is President Clinton taking credit as a Democrat for some of the most Draconian Republican legislation called Welfare Reform! I had to work with those changes for several years before I retired. That Reform actually hurt the people who could least afford to be hurt and who did not have the political power to change the laws. Has anyone even heard of the National Welfare Rights Coalition since the Welfare Reform bill was passed?? President Clinton took credit for Speaker Gingrich's dirty work and was proud of it! Talk about Teflon, President Clinton is still very much admired by the very people he helped to scr** over with that legislation. Sometimes it's those sweet smelling flowers that do the most damage because of the camouflaging fragrance:)
