Well you could write a letter claiming hardship but I have to say that if you are a reservist then you do know what to expect. My son didn't like being called up 4 days after his wedding but he went. I presume there are benefits to being a reservist in the USA.Is this why she is a reservist? Yes Iraq is a dangerous place but I go back to the point that if you don't want to go there then do not join up. Sorry if I am sounding unsympathetic here but as we say in the UK you have made your bed now you lie in it. As for the comparison between the services and your company then I don't believe that is a valid comparison.Actually if I volunteer for the military then yes at some point I would expect to be deployed!!!! The reason I have never been deployed is because when I was approached with other service wives in Germany to join the newly formed TA unit in British Forces Germany I decided not to because I felt that my place was with my kids while my husband was deployed. I am now too old to join but if they changed the age limit I would now volunteer as my circumstances have changed.

The only other way I could see her getting away with not going is if she was diagnosed with a mental illness.

Maureen
