While deceased Veterans are certainly honored. It's also cemetery clean up re-decoration of graves, sort of a Memorial Day tradition too. My mom is buried in a country cemetery, a beautiful wooded area on a hill, next to her parents and brother. Families go to the cemeteries before the Sunday services and clean and take new artificial arrangements and sometimes live plants to plant----I have become a real coward about this holiday, because even though she's been gone five years (she passed away in May before Memorial Day) now it takes allot for me to go up there.
