was that there was a lot of reconnaisance to be done,at which we excel. The recons always had the possibility of going hot, which was good (as opposed to getting "caught" equaling bad) The majority of direct action jobs had to be done by SOF and because NAVSOF didn't have a geographic assignment, we were picked pretty frequently. We had a lot of autonomy and the lack of conventional forces meant we didn't have a lot of BS to put up with. We could do a lot of what we wanted/saw needed to be done.
What I look for is the opppurtunity to meet the enemy and a lack of beauracy.
