The first time they ported up

Alex had been in the gulf for a few months before 9/11. His distroyer The O'Brian was lending support to boarding forces to aprehend illeagl oil shippments out of the gulf. He and his friends had gone into town and baught arab garb and his Chief was always telling them to blend in so 6 of them tried to go ashore dressed like that and they told them to go back and change. (no wonder his nick name aboard ship was Hambone)

They happend to be in Bhirain on the same day as 9/11 happened and he was in a bar in line to get a drink and they were watching the TV. Alex wondered what movie that was on as they saw the planes crashing into the world trade buildings. He never even got to get a beer before the shore patrole told everyone to head back to their ships. He spent the next three months out to sea.
They ran so low on supplies that all they had in the hold was a box of apples. (they finally got supplies but was iffy) He spent almost all his time trying to keep things going down below and slept at his desk. ( They had sailed without a 1st class petty officer and the 2nd class officer had left 2 weeks before 9/11.)

He brought home some awsome photos of mistles being shot off from the ship.
