Blue is their winter uniform

HI Carrie,
When my son Alex joined the navy in March 1998 he was sent to Great Lakes. And at that time whenever they went off base they had to be in uniform. The blue uniform is the winter one and it is made of wool they were it from late October to April. The white uniforms are summer and are made of a polyester blend. The white hats are worn with both.

After their six week training at Great Lakes some stay and do their A schools there and others are shipped to other areas to do A schools and somtimes you stay or come back to do other training there. So there is alot going on at Great Lakes.

Alex was there for 6 months and had a summer pass to Six Flags when he was there. He said that they also took the train to downtown Chicago and roamed around.

When he graduated from boot camp Jerry and I drove back to see him. They had a lovely ceremony at Buckingham fountian in down town Chicago (most of the time it is just done there on base)

One of the changes that happend when Alex was in the navy is that they don't have bellbottoms any more they phased them out and have strait legged pants but now most wear jumpsuits to work.
