Heard he was more in favour

of using special forces than Norm, only natrual I suppose him being SAS. Opinion here was he was ok unlike a lot of our General Staff who spent too much time doing the politics and not enough time doing the soldiering. He says in his biog that he got on well with Norm. Then again in public Monty used to say he got on with Eisenhower when in reality they couldn't stand each other.
My ex was in the first Gulf War so I was interested to see if you had any opinion. See we are a bit cynical about our officers in the British Army a lot still come from the upper classes because it is expected of them. Our SSM at 1st Fld Sqn once told the Sqn OC that the men wouldn't follow him to the end of the road out of idle curiosity just to see where he was going. He did however say it very respctfully, the OC didn't last long he did however get to Brigadier last I heard. Good old British tradtion promote incompetence and send it to the MOD in London. Is that how it works at the Pentagon????
