Generally the first thing you do is a hotwash--basically before people get to think and reason through things, you discuss the mission and capture the hihgpoints. Then, usually after a rest period you sit down with the leadership and go over all aspects of the operation and determine were what was expected and what happened were different and why. That usually leads to sometype of after action report which is forwarded with recommendations to the next higher headquarters and out to supporting units. Frequently misused as a general term, a debiref is conducted by intellignece personnel and is specific to the mission. The purpose of the debrief is to add to, confirm or contradict current intelligence assessments.
