LOL no worries on the 'e'

I was made aware of the whole e/no e thing when I was writing my 6th year biology project at school and my dad told me that I'd spelt it wrong (I'd included the e).

So Bourban is a whiskey but not Scotch but all malt whiskies are considered Scotch irrespective of where they come from. Does that sound right?
