I guess the more accurate term would be "defeat the political and religous will of the insurgency." or, maybe, get what we want. I was talking with a Marine buddy who was back from training the security forces and he said to me, "They (US Civilian leadership) just don't get it--they (Iraqis)will never be Americans" Perfectly succinct.
I believe and have believed in self determination---Iraq has to self detemine what it is going to be, and all the meddling, bribibg conjoling won't change that--sooner or later they will self determine and whatever the result is, it isn't going to be a United States democracy..
