Pointman and scout

Posted by TOm on 9/22/2005, 23:04:49, in reply to "Tom...point man question"
are different terms. the pointman is the first person in the patrol. He is always within sight and usually within 15 yards. His primary job is to not lead the patrol into an ambush :)
A scout is a term for someone sent ahead to check and an area prior to movement by the patrol. So, when we go over the beach swimmer scouts (2 man buddy pair) crosses the beach first, scouts the hinterland and signals the rest of patrol in--or comes hauling ass out under cover fire of the patrol
