Re: "Rogue Warrior" by Richard marcinko

I thought Rogue Warrior was pretty entertaining -it has some funny parts, and offensive language doesn't bother me. Marcinko's wild attitude, disdain for regulations, and [ahem] unique criteria for selecting team members form kind of an offbeat counterpoint to the reverent tone [outside] authors sometimes take when they describe SEALs. As for realism, well, I just don't know any better. Tom's comments [as quoted] seem telling.

If you want different viewpoints on some of the same events Marcincko describes, you could read Bob Gormly's autobiography Combat Swimmer or One Perfect Op by Dennis "Snake" Chalker. Some of the events they recount from Team Six overlap with Rogue Warrior. There's plenty of reading out there about the SEAL teams that sort of interweaves information and fits it together as a puzzle, and Marcinko's the stubborn bit that eventually fits but you have to pound on it with a hammer :)
