Arkansas, eh?

Well, bless my whiskers, gal, I was born in Eureka Springs. :)) In fact my 3 brothers were born in Bentonville, Blytheville and Little Rock. But we moved to Oregon when I was 5 and never looked back!

I don't know -- what is the inverse of "Damn Yankee?"

Regarding the Indians -> Cardinal ... I remember that the alumni were up in arms about that! There was a vote on the new name and (at least according to the school paper) the students' favorite was Stanford Robber Barons. :)) Some favored the Trees. So I guess we got off easy being a color though I thought it was a blatent knockoff of the Harvard Crimson.

I do take exception to your calling yourself an "old broad" (the opinionated part is fine), as I seem to be 2 years older than you and am NOT ready for that tag yet. :)
