He was successful at his job, they didn't know he was there

I'm guessing, that the boat's sonar was just making a scheduled sweep and they didn't know he was out there. At least I hope it was unintentional. Would hate to think that some guy that lost money to Tom playing poker would use a sonar ping as a deliberate get even gotcha.
