difference in teams

Am I correct to assume that some teams are a more choice (for lack of a better word) assignment than others? Is there one team that is most frequently on the dream list and one team that is avoided? What makes one team better than the other. I guess I assumed that the only differences in each team aside from personel would be which coast they were based from.
