My dad was a teacher at my school and I vividly remember trying to get him to give me the answers to homework that he'd written for the subject he taught. Did he ever give me a straight answer...nope. Always answered with another question to help me get to the answer myself.
I certainly learned a lot more as a result of this, much as we are all learning from Tom.
