Battered Women - personal experience

I'm sorry to admit this, but I was one, many years ago. Luckily, we weren't married or even living together. It happened a total of three times.

After we broke up, he eventually moved to Las Vegas, and then he was convicted of attempted murder when he shot a woman in the chest after they had an argument! She almost died, and she'll be disabled from it for the rest of her life. I keep thinking that it could have been me...

Why do women stay? Because of hope - the hope that the "wonderful" man they fell in love with will magically reappear. The problem is that everyone starts out on their best behavior, right? And it is also true that if you stay after they hit you once, they *will* do it again.

He actually said to me at one point (after giving me a black eye), "At least I didn't hit you with a closed fist." Like that makes a difference!!! Obviously, he was a very dangerous person, and I'm so grateful he's going to be in prison for the next twenty years.
