One of my college roommates told me REM works in 4hr cycles (could be complete nonsense, but her system worked so I'll share it). Rather than having a 2-hour nap, she'd say, have a 4-hour one or none at all. That way your body would get to go in and out of its deep-sleep cycle. You know how when you get woken up from a deep sleep you are super-groggy? That was what she said happened with naps less than 4 hours. Watching some medical drama like ER, I saw an actor "resident" give the same advice to a "student". I used her system when cramming for exams (study 'till 3:30, sleep 'till 7:30) so I at least got some sleep, and I ended up with decent grades and didn't waste any time studying all semester :) :)
