that would be the point of the PRECISION aspect of air strikes these days!! even CAS!

our guys can call in fire ALL AROUND THEM -avoiding themselves- so they can get the hell out of there or continue on with the mission if need be.

doncha remember reading all about the FACs [forward air controllers] and CCTs [combat controllers] riding -on horses no less- with the spec ops types in afghanistan, using GPS and laser designators to illuminate targets so our "smart bombs" could hit them!?!? and being on radios with the ground forces, who were telling them where they are, what they need, how far away the bad guys are, etc... and the FACs or CCTs then talking to the pilots on radio and telling them where to aim their weapons!?!??!

there was one particularly fascinating report of a group of guys who only had some trees for cover themselves, who helped "walk in" a series of bombs within oh about 500 feet, i think i remember it was, of their own positions!!! the pilot would make a pass, drop some bombs, and they say, okay, try xx feet, xx degrees this way next time; pilot back for the next pass... a little more this way, okay, okay, and they kept doing that til the pilots were droppig bombs literally within a couple hundred feet of the own positions to take out the bad guys who were shooting at them!

pretty awesome stuff.

of course, not sure if that's what the good frogman was really talking about. ;-D

he's a smooth talking, silver tongued devil if i've ever seen [heard? read?!!] one! so you never know!!
